Steps to getting on DMR

Assumption:  You hold at least a Technician Class license.

1.    Get a DMR ID.  Obtain an official copy of your license from FCC and follow the instructions at https://www.radioid.net/

2.   Get a DMR radio.  Research what one will work best for you.  Handheld or Mobile or both?
a.   Are you in range of repeater at home?
b.   Will you be operating mobile?
c.   If not in range of a repeater, then a handheld and hotspot may be sufficient to start.
Repeater information can be found at https://n8ara.org/smf/digital-mobile-radio-(dmr)/ and https://www.repeaterbook.com/repeaters/index.php?state_id=39

3.   If not in range of a repeater, acquire or build a hotspot.
a.   A fairly decent step by step process for building and configuring one is available at:
https://m6ceb.com/hotspot-edit/
b.   Register on Login | BrandMeister
c.   Get familiar with What is Pi-Star? - pistar.uk

4.  Another option is an AMBE Encoder which won't require a radio or hotspot.  You would still need a Brandmeister account.  https://n8ara.org/smf/digital-mobile-radio-(dmr)/ambe-encoder/

5.   If in range of repeater, program you Code Plug for the repeater(s) and any hotspot you may have.  Additional information about building a code plug can be found at:
a.   https://n8ara.org/smf/digital-mobile-radio-(dmr)/
b.   The interface cable, programming software, and code plug structure may be unique to the radio being programmed.

Have fun ....
