Hi Folks,

Once again we will replace our normal in-person NARA meeting scheduled for this Saturday, June 20, with a web-based phone/video conference using Zoom software as described below.

Our program will be be given by Steve Katz N8WL about Field Day 2020, who said: "It will include an updated PowerPoint workshop on ARRL's Field Day, which will occur the following weekend. While NARA will not be meeting in person as a group this year because of the dangers of COVID-19, we should all try to get on the air and make contacts. This year the ARRL, who sponsors, Field Day, has made two important changes: (1) If you operate as a Class D (home station), you may contact other home stations for credit; and (2) if you specify a club membership when you submit your report to ARRL, the ARRL will aggregate all the members of that club and publish a combined score. Normally NARA operates as a 3 transmitter Class A station, and gets listed in the results. This year it will appear as an aggregate score of club members who operate as different classes (and probably only 1 transmitter each). Be sure to specify "Newark Ohio Amateur Radio Association" exactly like that. There are 17 Newarks in the US, and a lot of "NARAs" so it's important to spell it out and add the "Ohio."

Steve also said his presentation "will be basic but comprehensive. It is aimed at the beginner but will be a good review for the seasoned operator as well. Come and learn all about Field Day, and you'll have more fun and more confidence when you participate in it on the following weekend. For those of you who want to get a sneak preview (or have trouble falling asleep!), read the rules here:  "

We will use Zoom again as the software .  It's a good idea to download their app to your computer or cell phone.   It's free to all users to check in with and for their own short meetings.  I did purchase a monthly membership which permits bigger and longer meetings.  The check-in information is given below.  Just tap the link and it should connect you to the meeting.

I will serve as host (Net Control) for the conference call.  You should plan to join the conference about 5:45 pm to work through any problems.  Our meeting will then start at the usual time of 6:00 pm.  After you login you will be able to hear the audio and see any video that's put up.  As with a directed net, only one person should talk at a time. The system also has a 'chat' feature that is available at any time, as well as 'gallery' view which shows video or phone links for everyone that checks in.

You will receive a draft copy of the minutes from the last meeting from Ron WE8V.  You also can find them at the NARA web site:  Please let us know if you find  errors.

I suggest you keep updated with the CDC website, as well as those from the Ohio Department of Health and the Licking County Health Department.   Be aware and stay safe.
