REQUIREMENTS FOR REQUESTING USE OF THE NEWARK AMATEUR RADIO ASSOCIATION CLUB CALL SIGN -- N8ARA

1.  Normally, the club call sign, N8ARA, will only be used for Field Day or other special events sponsored by NARA.  However, individual members may use the call sign if authorized by the Station License Trustee.  A request must be made to Earl, W8BR, the trustee of the call sign, on the application form, which can be downloaded here.

If applying by email you do not have to mail this form in. You may submit the information by email by just utilizing the format of the form to provide the information. If the dates you request are not taken and your request is approved, the authorization will be posted to the log on the NARA Web Site.  If in the event the Web Site is not available for updates the Call Sign Trustee will provide another method to convey authorization.

His mailing address is available at http://www.qrz.com/db/w8br/

Requests to Use the N8ARA Call Sign may be Emailed to: [email protected]

Note:  Control Operators are designated for the specific event by the N8ARA Station Trustee and typically are the Amateur Extra Class Licensees in the logs.  Other classes of Amateur Radio Operators serve to extent of their operating authorizations by their individual licenses.  Click Here for extended explanation.

2. REQUIREMENTS:

A. In order to use the club call sign, an individual must be a member of the Newark Amateur Radio Association.  The Club call sign is authorized for use only for activities of the Newark Amateur Radio Association.

B. The maximum period of time that a member can use the Club call sign is seven (7) calendar days. (0001 UTC starting date through 2400 UTC ending date).

C. The final decision on allowing the use of the club call sign will rest with the Trustee, W8BR.

D. During a club event, the club call sign will be assigned to the event coordinator for the duration of the event and may be used for operating one or more stations at the same time from the event site.  The operation of each station will be supervised by a control operator with appropriate license class.

3. Club Call Use

Using the club call does not give you any operating privileges beyond what you already have for your license class. For example, if you hold an General Class license you can not serve as the control operator in using the club call in the Extra Class sub-bands.

Multiple operators may be authorized to use the club call simultaneously, even on the same band. However, if you know that another member is using the club call on the same band that you are (and there are not some special circumstances at the time, i.e. a club special event), you might want to consider moving to a different band or a different operating time so as to avoid confusion for non-member stations working the club.

When making on-air contacts with the club call, identify using the club call sign at the end of each contact and every 10 minutes during the contact.  Also, control operators should include their personal call sign with the club call sign at least once per hour.

Note:  Control Operators are designated for the specific event by the N8ARA Station Trustee and typically are the Amateur Extra Class Licensees in the logs.  Other classes of Amateur Radio Operators serve to extent of their operating authorizations by their individual licenses.  See extended explanation attached.
