Hi Earl,

Thanks for your e-mail.  The short answer is that clubs operating at an individual location, all operating under one call within ARRL's 1,000 foot rule, may continue to use one registration, but those outside of the 1,000 foot circle are operating independently and using their own call, not the club call, so they should register individually.  Field Day this year is no different than any of the many other club contests, where members operate individually and pool their scores, that occur each year.

Individuals working independently are e-mailing me individually for support, rather than seeking help through their group and coordinating through their clubs as usual.  As a result, my e-mail support effort for Field Day is already off the charts.  For these reasons, this part of the licensing agreement remains in tact:

Our club registered your software. Are club members allowed to use the club registration at home or elsewhere for their personal use?

No, a club registration is only for use at the location of a club station. Providing club members registration numbers for their personal use is NOT allowed under our registration policy. This is a violation of our agreement, it hurts our business and our livelihood. Since 1997, we have kept our one time registration fee low and we've provided countless free upgrades.

A single program only costs about as much as one submarine sandwich ($8.99). With over 120 programs in our package, free support and free upgrades for life, with all the work we are putting into developing, maintaining and supporting our software, at $0.41 per program (package deal is $49.99 / 120 programs = $0.41), our pricing represents excellent value and the programs are already very deeply discounted.

To continue our current, free upgrade pricing policy, we are counting on the honesty and integrity of clubs to maintain the strict confidentiality of club passwords.

Thanks for asking and your understanding.

Enjoy Field Day!

Subject: Legal Question

Scott,

A question came up.  Years ago, I licensed a copy under N8ARA club call
sign.  We typically use that at field day by all operators under that
one call sign.

This year is an odd ball year and we'll be operating individually under
our own call signs but forwarding to ARRL with notice for aggregating score.

We want to be fair with you and make sure we understand whether we can
still use the club N8ARA registration or each operator will have to
their own individual registered copy?

BTW your Club Score Processor works great.
