Hi Folks,

I'm delighted to relay the information that NARA has been granted its
501 (c) (3) status by the IRS!

I'm attaching excerpts from the letter we received yesterday and I'll
bring along a copy of the full letter to the next NARA meeting.  Please
note that the effective date of exemption began on July 12, 2016, and
the application was approved on September 23, 2016.  Any contributions
made to NARA since July 12 definitely can be considered tax deductible
on your income tax return.

I can't begin to express adequately our appreciation for all that Fred
NL7CF has done to get us to this point.  He has been very helpful from
the beginning in outlining the benefits and obligations of this
classification, which led to the membership approving going ahead with
the application.  He took care of the changes needed at the state level,
as well as the IRS application and responses to their requests for
additional information.  Many thanks to you Fred for all this support of
NARA and local hams.

Fred reminds us that this IRS approval does not require NARA to change
any of its activities or do anything substantially different from the
way we've done things in the past.   He does note that NARA cannot
engage in any self-dealing, political, or lobbying activity -- which we
have never done anyway.
